william elliott whitmore - have mercy

i have no problem admitting that i'm late on the william elliott whitmore bandwagon. i'm not exactly sure why i never checked him out but all i've been listening to the past couple days is his stuff. just imagine bruce springsteen meets tom waits and you'll have a pretty accurate idea of what he sounds like. the track i'm posting comes from his "latitudes" ep that was released last year via southern records. be on the look out for his new full length "song of the blackbird" due to come out sometime in september.

if you're late to hop on his bandwagon then i missed the wagon completely because this is the first mention i've ever heard of him. he seems to be holding back so much emotion when he sings that it almost sounds painful for him. it's beautiful. thank you for posting this.

I'll let you both know that I've been on his wagon for a few years now. If you get the chance, check him out live. I saw him open for Lucero a few years back and it was phenomenal. What a voice...

Just like you, I discovered WEW recently, when he opened a parisian show for Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan. I think he is one of the best guys in the alt-country department. His voice is so incredible. So, thanks again for this good post.
